Resident fuming due to being illegally disconnected

I am on a pre-paid service which cannot be in arrears - even my rates account is paid in advance.

I want to express my utmost disgust, frustration and anger regarding how I have to suffer inconvenience because of the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) wrongfully disconnecting my electrical service supply.

It is alleged by the municipality that the supply to my house was bridged with an illegal connection by another resident.

So when the municipality came to disconnect residents who are in arrears with payments and the illegal connections, they ended up disconnecting my electrical supply, while I am on a pre-paid service which cannot be in arrears – even my rates account is paid in advance.

I made various phone calls, including [some to] the call centre, from the first day of the disconnection, but in vain; as nobody could (or wanted to) assist.

On the second day I ended up speaking to one of the ladies at the municipality who was very kind and assured me that the matter would be rectified; she referred the matter to another person there who was suppose to send out technicians.

It has been several days and I am still without any electrical supply and grossly inconvenienced, while being a law-abiding citizen.

How is it possible for the Metro to make such a mistake and for it to take so long to be rectified?

Frustrated resident

The RECORD has sent the letter to the EMM and are awaiting their comment.
