Clr Haipel is the light at the end of the tunnel

We just wanted to advise that something positive can happen if you contact the correct person.

We would like to offer our sincere thanks to Councillor Bruna Haipel.

My son’s family, in Randhart, had major problems with the electricity supply to their home and in spite of being in Italy when I called her, Clr Haipel came to the rescue.

The problem was reported on Tuesday, December 13, 2016, with no response from City Power. My son had been given a number and advised it could take between four and 24 hours to attend to the fault. The fault was on the municipal board in the street, close to my son’s home. The board was open and it was clear there had been an electrical short within the box.

I think these boxes should be locked (by law), but if you drive around most suburbs you will see many open and showing signs of having been tampered with. Criminals steal the brass earth bars and small amounts of cable or short circuit these which then shuts off power to homes. This makes it easier for thugs who want to commit home robberies.

I think that when your local councillor does react on your behalf, it is right to thank and show appreciation for the support.

I hate to think how long they would have waited had Clr Haipel not assisted.

It took less than 30 minutes to correct the fault once they arrived on site. To answer my call while on holiday and overseas was totally unexpected.

We just wanted to advise that something positive can happen if you contact the correct person. I think the major problem is lack of training in the call centres or lack of interest. Many boxes that supply power to homes are vandalised and because they are open, I think they can be a danger to children.

Again, the vandals have no respect for the law. Many are on drugs and others jobless. The police are under staffed and possibly frustrated that when they arrest someone they are released on bail and then back committing the same crime.

We are all responsible to assist in keeping our suburbs clean and in good order. People who dump rubbish in the veld or throw bottles and food cartons out of car windows are also vandals and we need to take responsibility for our areas and assist the councillors and the police to make the city safe.
