Telkom’s cynical LTE tease over ADSL problem

No service and endless frustrations is what I have to deal with when dealing with Telkom.

No service and endless frustrations are what I have to deal with when dealing with Telkom.

I run a small one-man graphic designing company and rely on the internet to receive my work and send all my proofs and final artwork to clients and printers.

I do appreciate and understand that all things need upgrading. However, when Telkom informed me of their plan to upgrade the exchange, my ADSL line did not work. Telkom’s problem then became my problem and after two months of chasing the fault with them via phone, twitter and sms – and many hours of down time – I had no option but to purchase a Vodacom router as a back-up. This has cost me a large sum of money as we all know the price of data.

Then Telkom showed up with their tent on the corner of our local Spar. I immediately opted for LTE, so I applied, signed all the forms, handed over ID Documents, bank statements and submitted my “problem solver “. They promised me free delivery within 10 days, but upon contacting them just before the ten days were up, they gave me a tracking number and said it would come in that same week. Days later, and no sign of delivery, I called the sales department, and was told “your order has been cancelled?!” Why?! Why issue a tracking number and then cancel it?

Who cancelled it and why? Nobody at Telkom can give me any answers as to why this was done. Is this the service we are to be satisfied with? I find it shocking, frustrating and a waste of time. They are absolutely incompetent and can give the only answer that they know: “I don’t know.”

I am so despondent and disappointed, as I really thought that LTE would be the solution to an unstable and intermittent ADSL connection. I was told that optic fibre will only be ready in this area in two years time. Now I have to make the decision of finding another service provider, who can offer me a system that is not only affordable, but that actually works!
