Resident powerless against EMM

This is the "service" you get from the Billions we pay in taxes...

I am an Alberton resident having a massive problem with the EMM regarding my broken electricity meter.

For many months now, my meter has been broken, and when the electrician from the municipality came, he connected the meter illegally and he said he would come back and sort it out soon.

I called the municipality to ask why this was done, and instead, they threatened me by saying I will now have to pay electricity, backdated from February, because of the illegal connection.

After all that, I called the municipal manager and he assured me that they would come and install a new meter free of charge, but when none of this happened, I went into their offices, where I was told nobody is there, not the manager, nor anyone else that could help me with my problem.

This is the “service” you get from the billions we pay in taxes.

The RECORD contacted the EMM for comment. This was their reply:

“The City of Ekurhuleni contacted the customer and it was discovered that the meter was bypassed and no purchases were made since March 2016. The customer claims that he has been without electricity since March 2016 and has been using a generator.

“While investigations are being carried out regarding the meter that was bypassed, a new meter will be installed at no cost to the customer. The meter will be installed by next week Monday to ensure that all administration work is finalised,” said Themba Gadebe, spokesperson for the EMM.
