Alberton resident complains about the Post Office

I am writing this letter because I have not gotten any joy from anyone I have spoken to regarding this issue

I am writing this letter because I have not had any joy from anyone I have spoken to regarding this issue.

Every time I go to the Alberton Post Office, I am overwhelmed by the state of the area where the postboxes are situated.

Homeless people seem to have made this area their home and do not even bother to go anywhere else to do their business. The smell of urine is very strong, and stains on the floors testify to it being used as a lavatory. There is rubbish strewn about, and even the postboxes themselves are filthy and seem to have had something thrown on them.

I feel that nothing is being done and I feel it is my duty to get the word out and maybe in this way, they will start taking the problem seriously, because this is not only a disgrace because of the way it looks and smells, but surely it is a health risk.

I have spoken to several other people who feel as I do, but as is the problem with the community as a whole, we don’t take a stand when something is wrong, so that is what I am doing now.

The RECORD contacted the Post Office and received this comment from Nonhlanhla Kekana, its media representative: “Thank you for contacting the South African postal service.

Please accept our sincere apology for the dire state of our postboxes (Alberton). The matter has been escalated to our box section with reference: HD286 8277. An official handling the case will revert back to you with feedback.

We would like to thank you for bringing this to our attention, as it will help to improve our operations and services.”

To date:

This exchange took place in mid March, and as of yet, no reply has been received, and when the RECORD went to see if anything had changed, we were met by the smell of urine, papers littering the floor, and very dirty postboxes.
