ALBERTON – On November 10 we were visiting friends in Meyersdal and ordered pizzas. At about 19:20 the pizzas were delivered and my husband went out to fetch the food.
He paid at the gate and told the pizza guy to keep the change. As he turned around he was grabbed by an assailant and him and the pizza delivery man were forced into the house. I still thought he was coming in to bring the food and the next thing I was looking down the barrel of a gun. We were all told to lie on the floor and look down.
The robbers took what they wanted and at 20:00 they left with my car and my husband’s car. We waited a little while before the owner of the home pressed the panic button. I then went outside to wait for my brother to arrive at the scene.
Three minutes later Fox Security arrived and an ambulance. They contacted the Brackendowns police who arrived soon after. The treatment we received was amazing! The ambulance personnel, Chantal and Kevin, looked after us, especially our five-year-old son who had been crying during the incident. They showed him the ambulance and managed to distract him.
Geoff from CPF started tracking my husband’s cellphone which was in the car and the next morning my car was found in Alexandria and on Thursday my husband’s car was recovered. The police provided an escort for us to the Aeroton pound where the cars were in safekeeping.
After the ordeal I took a food parcel to Captain Meyer and the humble man couldn’t believe it. He called five witnesses to verify and made sure everyone received something. He was very professional and helpful.
I will never again generalise about the police. We will be forever grateful for the humane and kind way in which we were treated that night. The pizza parlour even delivered extra pizzas! Thank you to everyone who helped and assisted us! We will never forget it!
