Pack your bags – find the land of milk and honey

Today I am an angry South African with little to be proud of.

ALBERTON – Today I am an angry South African with little to be proud of.

What is going to happen to our country? To what extent is our government planning to drive this once-thriving and beautiful land of ours downhill?

Why is it that when you speak to friends abroad they laugh and say, you must be the only country with words like load shedding?

To top it all, thieves prowl, and when it is load shedding residents become the easy target of cable theft and vandalism.

We prepare ourselves for two to three hours of load shedding, just to wake up and find that we still have no electricity!

Why? Vandals and thieves got hold of the cables.

Yes, I voted for a changed South Africa and, like many others brought my children up to believe that this country holds the promise of a great future, and that we as a nation united will correct the wrongs.

Respect for all is what my children, and again many others, hold dearest.

Yet the powers that be and the majority of South Africans are still stuck in the dark ages of apartheid and fail to see the ugly truth.

Incompetence. Greed. Lack of leadership. Failing to build a future and taking the easy ticket to get out of a sticky situation and blaming the past… these are the problems.

How sad is the reality when businesses need to advertise: ‘We have a generator – open for business’ instead of advertising their products and services?

How sad that we pay for a non-existing service – the supply of power to our industry and homes.

How sad that the industrial hubs, generating employment in a country burdened by unemployment, have to suffer due to the lack of power supply.

How sad that government still doesn’t realise that places like substations should be safeguarded!

I have most certainly changed my mindset.

Where I once urged my children to find their future in this country filled with promise, I now beg them to pack their bags and to find their future and the land of milk and honey abroad.

Truly gatvol
