Bank charges not made clear

I am fully aware that in this wondrous IT day and age we are supposed to be aware of all the rules and regulations of all modern facilities, including each bank's ways of doing things.

Okay, but surely if you are not a member of an institute you are dealing with, a polite heads-up to the fact that you are about to be right royally ripped off would be nice!

As I was attempting to make a fairly large sum of money available to someone immediately, I withdrew it in cash from my bank account and went next door to Standard Bank and deposited it into this person’s account. No problem at my bank, no problem at Standard, except that when the person whose account I paid this into received the money they were informed that the bank fee was R500!

This may not be a lot to you out there, but that is a lot to me and I definitely would not have continued with the transaction had I been informed that it was about to cost me so much. What this meant of course was that my purchase has now cost R500 more than I had budgeted for. Why should a customer of Standard Bank pay such a large amount to have money put into their own account?

Next time Standard, please be honest and hold the gun up to my head when you rob me.
