ALBERTON – In addition to this information please note that the bridge was on the IDP (Integrated Development Plan) for Ward 38 from the time when it was knocked down in 2009.
That is at least four years and not as Cllr. Diamond said, two years! The problem is that in the ANC lead Ekurhuleni Metro the IDP does not work like a to-do-list. It more like a “wish list” and very often the budget allocations towards these products are insufficient.
Further at least two petitions were handed in at Council regarding the matter. I have asked written and oral questions to the Mayor regarding the bridge. I was told that the bridge was not insured and that there was no court case against the firm that owned the truck which knocked it down, because the cost to do that would have been too high.
