Why not let the public buy the aloes?

An Alberton resident feels that it is fine to buy aloes off the streets because at least residents will look after them.

With reference to the article “Don’t buy these plants on the street” dated February 26 on page 9 of the RECORD, why not let the public buy aloes from the side of the road? At least the public buying the plants will look after them.

Take for instance Klipriver Drive; all the tax payers’ money was spent to make the area beautiful with all the Marlothii and other aloes that were planted for the World Cup, but look at it now!

What about all the other aloes that were planted by the municipalities that is not looked after, even rare aloes such as the Castania aloes. Where did the municipalities get them?

Why plant them and then not look after them? The Marlothii aloe is the least threatened in South Africa, so why not?
