How not to treat an animal

Resident shares his views on animal crualty hoping to make a difference in the decisions people make about their pets.

I live in Orange Street and one afternoon at about 17:45 I heard a commotion outside. What I saw was most disturbing!

A young girl of about 15 years old was hitting a dog with a flat shoe while the poor animal was cowering on his back on the pavement. I told her to stop and her response was that it was her dog and he had gotten out of the property and was following her and her young friend to the shop.

After giving her a severe talking to, she then proceeded back up the road to where she lived and got the dog back inside the property.

As I saw my neighbour’s small dog was also out, I gathered that there must have been some interaction between the dogs. Be that as it may, beating a dog is most certainly not the answer and this shocking behaviour is totally unacceptable. I hate to think about the beatings this dog gets when no one is looking! Absolutely wicked!
