Bungle in the jungle

Every now and again when EMM makes a bungle in the jungle, Councillor Bruna Haipel lets us know...

Yet again EMM has experienced a few “bungles”. The so called cleansing levy of R5.70, which we were told was illegal, may now be “legal.” Until officially reversed.

“It was MMC of Finance; Clr Makwakwa who stated at a Programming Meeting that the Mayoral Committee had decided that the levy should not be included in the budget but it was approved by Council and gazetted as part of the tariffs. He then promised that an item in this regard would be brought to Council. But this was not minuted.

“I complained that Makwakwa’s statement had not been captured in the minutes of the August Programming Meeting. The minutes were corrected so he is now on record as having made the statement,” said one of the finance administrators.

Secondly there were the “availability charges” which residents in many complexes were charged, although the complexes have bulk metering.

All residents had to be refunded and the reversal had to be done manually. By the time this was done the amount added up to R600 per account.

Thirdly, for this week, a case of incompetency. Alberton Parks Department lent a truck to Germiston Parks Department for the removal of branches.

Unfortunately the driver did not know how to drive the truck and broke it in the process, which was no laughing matter. Now Alberton Parks department is sitting without a truck and cannot collect the branches from trees which were trimmed.

Until next week!
