The new adventures of the Bag Lady: I’ll be careful what I wish for, for 2021!

I had envisioned an exciting year with some new challenges and maybe an adventure on the cards. I’ll be careful what I wish for, for 2021!

We’ve been in England now for close on seven weeks and although I remain positive, I am beginning to feel like a hamster on its wheel, running around and around and not going anywhere

I’ve always been someone who gets up and goes, never one to sit around for long, never strolling but walking fast. Now I find I want to walk fast but I’ve nowhere to go!

I’m sure most of us are feeling the same and trying to keep positive and looking forward to the future is becoming very difficult to say the least. We listen in anticipation when our country’s leaders speak and hope, just a little bit, we’ll be hearing some good news each time.

Our prime minister Boris Johnson spoke on Sunday evening, May 10, and the good news is we can exercise more than once a day. We may even take a short drive to find new walks, keeping in mind social distancing.

Lockdown has become a household name and even though we may not like it, it’s the way we’ll have to live for a while.

I looked the word up. It means a state of isolation or restricted access instituted as a security measure. The less preferred it means the confining of prisoners to their cells, typically in order to regain control during a riot.
Either are awful and not what I had in mind for 2020.

I had envisioned an exciting year with some new challenges and maybe an adventure on the cards. I’ll be careful what I wish for next year!

Looking good

As much as we miss our families and friends, doesn’t this lockdown make you appreciate your hairstylist and beauty therapists even more?
I confess I trimmed my fringe today. It was becoming caught in my eyelashes and I was worried I wouldn’t be able to see for very much longer. You know how one thing leads to another? Well, then I decided I’d chop a bit more off all around! Not bad I must say, although I doubt my hairstylist would agree.
My once manicured nails aren’t looking too good, and as for me eyebrows, say no more.

Ode to women

As hair becomes scraggly and eyebrows awry,
Hair dyes and colours are in short supply.
Our nails are not looking too great at all,
One thing is certain we’re not going to a ball.

Our diets aren’t as healthy as we’d wish them to be,
We’re putting on weight, that’s all we can see.
Three pies with gravy, what a great lunch,
What’s next in the pantry for us to munch!

Taking a walk, is an exciting pastime,
Months wasted while we’re in our prime!
Cars in the garage, batteries flat,
Oh, when can we travel to be exact?

We long to go shopping, eating out and the like,
Even going for a regular hike.
Getting our children back to school once more,
While we enjoy wine with the woman next door!

All looking forward to when we’re let out,
Doing whatever without any doubt.
Beauty musts, our nails and hair,
And re-emerging as women with flair.

And so as we enter more weeks of unknown,
We’ll rise to the occasion and try not to moan.
As women, we know we can endure,
And come out shining that’s for sure.

I hope this brought a smile to your face and let’s all look forward to a new normal and a time for making more memories and enjoying wonderful times with our families and friends.

Stay safe, keep smiling and if you go shopping, keep those safe distances apart.
