The Bag Lady

I visited a new Italian deli and coffee shop this past week, Ross Italian Deli, in Glenvista Shopping Centre. Give it a try, I'm sure you won't be disappointed!

I think it’s time to drop a little hint – or a bombshell – depending on how you look at….There are only 10 weeks to Christmas! Yes, I know, the year has flown and it’s ridiculous to think we will be buying gifts, making our Christmas cakes – if you haven’t done so already – and deciding what you’ll be doing over the festive period.

I’ll be out and about soon looking for gifts that won’t break your bank account and will let you know where you’ll find them.

A little taste of Italy in Glenvista

I’ve been eagerly awaiting the opening of the new delicatessen shop in Glenvista Shopping Centre, Ross Italian Deli, and can describe it in one word – ‘impressive’!

It is owned by Maria Grazia and her husband, Rossano Sottoriva. With assistance from their son Dylan and other very pleasant staff, I think Ross Italian Deli is set to become one of the better ‘deli and coffee’ shops in the South of Joburg. Beautifully decorated in fresh colours with splashes of cerise pink, it creates a ‘wow’ appearance.

Ross Italian Deli opened its doors on September 10, and few can resist not popping in as they stroll by. There are tables both inside and outside. Each one has a parasol and the most comfortable decorative chairs which give the place a real ‘Italian” feel. I doubt anyone will be disappointed with what the deli offers as a takeaway or for enjoyment at the coffee shop.

The menu offers typical Italian dishes including bruschetta with different fillings, panino, wraps or piadina, Italiano platters for one or two and the most divine dolci (desserts). Finish your lunch with a coffee and when the sun is hot, enjoy a scoop or two of Italian ice cream (gelato and sorbet) in delicious flavours.

The deli sells all Italian products, cold meats, cheeses and Italian bread, biscuits and cakes.

Maria added they will acquire a liquor licence shortly, which will make lunch that little more enjoyable for those who enjoy a beer or a glass of wine.

They are open Monday to Friday 9am to 6pm, on Saturdays 9am to 3pm and Sundays from 9am to 2pm. For more information phone 010 045 3612.

Bouquets of the Week

To Nisha at Maxi’s in Alberton City, a huge bouquet from Rosemary De Gouveia. “I was shopping in the centre when I slipped and fell. Thank you so much, Nisha for helping me through this ordeal. I cannot thank you enough for your kindness. You are an amazing lady.”

*To Charlotte Venter at SARS Alberton. Every year I put off doing my tax return.

Two weeks ago I decided to get it done and went along to the SARS office in Alberton. I very nearly turned back when I saw the queue at reception, but stuck it out. Fifteen minutes later I was sitting in the area where you wait with your number to be called to a cubicle.

This year a wonderful lady, Charlotte Venter, called me to her cubicle. She was really great. Fifteen minutes later I left with a smile on my face and it was all done. Four days later I received my tax return funds in my bank account! What fantastic service. Thank you, Charlotte.

That’s it for this week. Shop till you drop.
