The Bag Lady

Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there. Hope you all enjoy a wonderful day.

As a milestone birthday loomed I was feeling anxious and worried but as it happens, I feel no different after my birthday. Sixty is the new forty – well that’s my story and I’m sticking to it!

Tragedy in the Cape

Nature can be beautiful but it can also be devastating and none more so than the recent fires in the Western Cape and the storms in Cape Town and along the coastline. My condolences to those who have lost loved ones or who lost homes – I can’t even begin to imagine your loss. I saw some videos on Facebook of the fires and storms and it was quite unbelievable. I see the people of South Africa are rallying to give support. This is, indeed, wonderful news.

Father’s Day treats

This special day is just around the corner and you have possibly already bought your dad a gift – but if not, here are a few gift ideas.

Make up a hamper of his favourite tipple, biltong, nuts and chocolates. Save money and make up the package yourself – it’s easy to do. Get a sturdy cardboard box, cover it in giftwrap, place tissue paper inside and then fill it. Wrap the whole package in coloured cellophane and tie it with ribbon or string. With the cold weather here for a while, a pair of warm pyjamas or comfy slippers will be appreciated. Is he a music lover? Buy a CD or voucher! If he enjoys reading a book, he’ll certainly enjoy a voucher….

Treat him to lunch. Book restaurants now though, or else you won’t get in. There are lots to choose from, including Miss Grace, which is always a winner with its delicious food and gorgeous gardens. Thyme Café in Tulip Garden Centre on Rifle Range Road is having a “Father’s Day Prawn and Rib festival”. Besides a craft market there will also be entertainment for the children as well as child minders, so dad can enjoy his meal in peace. Sounds like fun and a great family experience!

Bouquet of the Week

Sue Green gives Honda the Glen a big bouquet. “I think everyone knows the JOY Dog-mobile which is used to transport the celebrities of the South. I’ve had such exceptional service from Honda at the Glen, from booking the car in, providing lifts to home not to mention constant updates. Jobs are always well done and the car comes back spotless. They’ve gone above and beyond the call of duty, haven’t charged a fortune and are always available for advice. Grateful thanks to Angeline and her team.”

That’s it for this week. Shop till you drop!
