The Bag Lady

This week I checked out some Easter spoils, not only chocolate either, and caught up with Cristofer Lanzetti, The Red Velvetier, who has branched out his business.

I was thinking autumn was in the air – well, it is in the early mornings and evenings – but the daytime temperatures have returned to those of our normal hot days, which I love and will savour for as long as they last.

Try to spend as much time as you can out of doors, enjoying long leisurely lunches, early dinners and picnics. Locally, Klipriviersberg Nature Reserve and Rietvlei Zoo Farm are ideal family locations for some walking and picnicking afterwards. There is a cost involved for Rietvlei Zoo Farm but the nature reserve is absolutely free and the Precinct Entrance on Peggy Vera Road has a delightful grassed and partially shaded area, where you can relax and enjoy the peace and tranquillity after a hike through the reserve.

Hop along to the shops

Chocolate eggs, Easter bunnies, miniature eggs, and hot cross buns can be found in Checkers, Pick n Pay, Spar and many other shops. Don’t leave it until the last few days before Easter if you only have a small budget. Many of the less costly Easter treats will be sold out and you’ll be left having to pay more.

My favourite chocolate is Lindt and I see a few delicious Easter treats just waiting to be bought, especially for me!

Grownup treats may also come in other forms, apart from chocolate. Visit your local garden nurseries and buy daffodil and tulip plants/ bulbs, or bunches of daffs and tulips.

Mooinooi in Meyersdal Mall, shop 22, has a few Easter treats: wooden rabbit coasters, six in a box for R270 or six multi-coloured wooden rabbit coasters (no box) for R220. There is also a bunny doorstop in wood for R190 and a hanging three egg set (accessory for a door) at R85.

Making a name for himself

I interviewed Cristofer Lanzetti, The Red Velvetier, a few years ago for the Get It magazine and I was thrilled to see and hear how well he’s doing. Now, he is not only baking and decorating the most delicious celebratory cakes, but he’s spread his wings and has expanded into floral arranging and décor styling as well. Visit his website: www.theredvelvetier.co.za or phone him on 072 406 9105. Good luck, Cristofer, I do believe hard work pays off, and you’ve certainly put in lots of that!

That’s it for this week, shop till you drop.
