The Bag Lady

This week The Bag Lady browsed for Valentine gifts. Always remember, true love costs nothing.

Another week crossed off our 2017 calendar. Time waits for no one, so remember to write your best book yet and make this year one to remember in a great way.

A loving gesture

As Valentine Day nears, many of us like to show our love and appreciation for our darlings. It needn’t be especially on this day – every day you can show your love in small ways but seeing as this day is a day noted for love, maybe take advantage and choose a little something special for your loved one. Always remember though, true love costs nothing. I took a walk around the shops, looking for gifts -here are a few ideas.

Extravagant gifts

I popped into Edgars at The Glen Shopping Centre and spoke to Dolphy Shao (Service Leader Fine Fragrances), who was really helpful, showing me some of their most popular fragrances. “Chanel No.5 is still our top seller and you’d be amazed who comes in to buy it! If you were thinking it’s the career woman, think again. We quite often have the more mature and elderly women buying Chanel No.5, just as a treat for themselves. The perfume, 100ml, sells for R2 270 and this is a classic perfume – still as popular as ever.

“Si by Georgio Armani (EDP) is also very popular and retails at R2 056 for 100ml, while 80ml costs R1 700. This will make a beautiful gift as the bottle is a shoe in navy blue with a high gold stiletto heel, which will look exceptionally fabulous on a dressing table. A real keepsake!” added Dolphy.

For the guys, try Chanel Bleu EDP 100ml for R1 850; or Tom Ford Black Orchid EDP, at 100ml for R2 100.

Less extravagant gifts but still pricey

One of my favourite shops, Forever New, has the most beautiful handbags. Gorgeous colours from the palest of pastels to the darker navy and blacks. Handbags from R499 to R899. They also stock purses and cell phone covers. Or choose a silky blouse; they have some beauties in-store. You’ll have to know your partner’s size though.

Sexy underwear

Woolworths does it again with their sensual Distraction ranges, varying from one piece chemises at R425, Balconette bras from R265, lacy panties from R120 and bikinis from R140. Colours to choose from: midnight navy, charcoal grey and sexy black. Always a winner!

Edgars ranges of Earth Bound body products are gorgeous too and the prices great. Candy Floss bath oil: 500ml for R179.90; body butters and shower crèmes (200mls) from R69.90 – and Candy Floss hand and nail cream: 75ml for R59.90.

Choose chocolates or wine

Lindt have some delicious chocolates especially for Valentine’s Day. Woolworths stock Lindt gift boxes; some heart shaped too. Buy a bottle of wine or sparkling wine and pair it with chocolates; wrap together in cellophane and tie with a huge red or pink ribbon (gals), or navy or black (guys).

Say it with flowers

For the real romantics, flowers say it all. Multiflora is probably one of your best local choices, but make sure you order a bunch of red roses prior to the day (011 613 4011). They do sometimes have extra in their outlets but if you have your heart set on roses, pre-order so as not to be disappointed.

Loving words can say so much

If you haven’t much budget, choose a beautiful Valentine’s card (Birthdays The Glen, Cardies Mall of the South, CNA or PNA). Buy a bar of chocolate and attach to the card with a ribbon, she’ll love you forever!

Dinner for two

Remember what I said last week. Book a restaurant now if you wish to take your loved one out. Miss Grace Country Food House is hosting a romantic dinner on Valentine’s evening, for R280 per person. Just perfect! Book on 079 526 0348 or email: info@missgrace.co.za

Enjoy a romantic Valentine’s Day. That’s it for this week, shop till you drop!
