The Bag Lady

What’s The Bag Lady been up to this week?

I’m back! I bet some of you didn’t even realise I’d been on holiday because I made sure there was copy for the last two newspapers. But I was and it was an absolute blast from beginning to end.

It was my daughter’s wedding and my mom and sister came over from England to share in the special celebration.

One thing I have to say to any bride-to-be a week before her wedding – make sure you have a pair of scissors. Honestly, it seemed we needed scissors for absolutely everything and guess what, we could never find the darn things.

The wedding was held at Thornbirds Wedding and Conference Centre in Eikenhof and no words can truly express how beautiful everything was. To Megan, Jermaine and Meshack, nothing was too much trouble. From day one Megan was very involved with all the wedding plans and if the couple to be married showed any concerns at all about their ‘big day’, Megan calmed their nerves and sorted everything out.

The chef, Jermaine, was on hand to advise us on what culinary delights we should go for. In the end the choices were perfect and I can honestly say I’ve never tasted roast lamb so succulent, nor tender. You outdid yourself with the food Jermaine, thank you so much

Meshack, what can I say, professionalism should be your second name. Never, ever, have I experienced such care and attendance. If we needed to ask him anything, he suddenly appeared out of nowhere. You can be extremely proud of yourself.

To Nicole and Jonathan, thank you. Your expertise in catering to your guests every whim is superb without a doubt.

Thornbirds, you can be proud to know you have exceptional management and staff.

Which wedding cake?

Not really any doubt what the couple wanted and Clayton from Cake Away in The Broads Shopping Centre, baked a delicious ‘naked cake’ which was decorated with fresh flowers on the morning of the wedding. He also came to my rescue after I’d decided to bake cupcakes and, the day before the wedding, my nerves got the better of me and in he stepped to bake and ice 55 cakes. I appreciate all you did for us.

Flower power

Again, no doubt about the flowers and colours, and Rob and Leonarda Jones, two special friends of ours, made up the bouquets, button holes and corsages. They were too stunning for words and beautifully done.

It was a very special day for a very special couple and, as all of you who have children and have seen them getting married know, it was an emotional but joyful occasion.

Holiday fun

Apart from the wedding we had such fun. It was the first time, in a long time, that my daughter, my sister, my mum and I spent quality time together and it was fabulous. We experienced a relaxing spa treatment at Sinzinani Spa which was wonderful and then ate lunch at the Kraal Restaurant at Thaba Eco Hotel.

We shopped (till we dropped) at both the Glen Shopping Centre and Mall of the South, ate out at local restaurants and last, but not least, enjoyed a glass of wine or two (G&Ts and cocktails were not far behind). Local is lekker certainly paid off for us in a huge way and I really feel the South can offer the best.

Until next week, shop till you drop!

Julie
