Inside Report with Michael Basch:

The Rand is in free fall but happy holidays everyone!

Just as you thought the year was coming to an end and that nothing more could possibly happen, our esteemed President decides to drop the proverbial bombshell by removing finance minister Nene. This move has sent the Rand into free fall but happy holidays everyone!

It is beyond my understanding why a party such as the ANC, who fostered some of Africa’s greatest leaders and thinkers, would allow this man to continue being president. He cannot read numbers from his speech papers, gets photographed using his phone at an official UN dinner whilst being laughed at by President Barack Obama and he fires the finance minister on a whim.

But wait he’s not done yet. According to him Africa is the biggest continent in the world and all the other continents could fit inside Africa #facepalm.

Sorry Asia apparently being 14,147,113 sq. kilometers and housing 3 billion more people than Africa doesn’t count. Oh wait the only thing that doesn’t count is the president. That’s right mister president, Asia is fourteen million one hundred and forty seven thousand one hundred and thirteen square kilometers bigger.

On a serious note, we are facing dire times if this continues. The absolute wastage of tax payers’ money has given rise to a tax revolt, this means more companies and individuals have decided not to pay their taxes this year. Are we to become yet another failed African state?

Youth unemployment is over 35 per cent on official figures but probably closer to 70 per cent in reality. The fruitless and wasteful expenditure figure is so high that I cannot even bring myself to write it down. We need R2 billion to pay for the students next year and the presidential security costs have risen by R2 billion oh yes and don’t forget that there will be a new jet worth R4 billion soon.

I do however want to wish all the readers and the community at large a blessed Christmas and a happy new year. The best part about the current state of affairs is that when the news is bad, just turn off the TV.

Now go spend some time with the family and enjoy the holiday season.
