Inside Report with Basch: Opening of New Market Mall

As everyone will have undoubtedly seen, the Mall at New Market has officially been opened.

As everyone will have undoubtedly seen, the Mall at New Market has officially been opened. This, following hot on the heels of the Mall of the South, really does start to breathe some rejuvenation into our retail sector.

The challenge now is, as I tried to explain to the mayor, for council to upgrade and maintain the infrastructure that allows for developments like this. You see if the environment lends itself to investment, the entrepreneurs, big business and consortiums will take care of the rest.

What will be interesting to see is if the opportunity that will come through property development in the area is seized? Take Parkhurst, a sleepy little village in the north, where I grew up. Nice enough houses, not all flash mind you, basically your Alberton North type vibe. That is until a revolution started on one street called Fourth Avenue.

It started with a restaurant called Espresso, a tiny, six-table restaurant, that grew and grew but with it came a new culture of cool. Then the houses started to get bought and developed and now it’s a bustling hive of metro chic. The place to go, the place to be. A true village of excitement and opportunity. Now that’s what I would like to see happening here in Alberton. That we grab the new life being brought in and invest in our town.

Let’s make Alberton the crown jewel of the Southern Suburbs, and it starts with us. We have to take the lead and start to help in this creation of this vision.

If you see someone littering, stop them and remind them that this is our town and that is unacceptable. If you see shady characters lurking and trying to ply their nefarious trade, call the cops and get them to get rid of them. Join the CPF and help move crime out of our area.

Alberton, I believe in you and I believe that new can bring new. And now that we have a new energy, let’s make this into a new town for all of us. Albertonians go forth and prosper. Go forth and be bold. Bring about the Alberton revolution, where we take this town into the future, a bright prosperous future.
