CPF more than just a policing forum

I have often come out in support of the Community Policing Forum and the sterling work that they do. Today I will yet again sing their praises.

Crime, as we are all aware, is on the rise. Criminals have been taking full advantage of the general lawless attitude which prevails in South Africa today. But there are a small number of individuals who risk their lives to ensure our safety. These men and women go out at night and patrol our areas to ensure that we are all safe.

Their persistent endeavours aids the embattled police service with their limited resources and limited staffing in the ongoing fight against crime. People like Geoff Steyn who assists the police with the maintenance of their vehicles, mostly at his own cost, and Chris Ndlovu who rallied the community to come to the aid of a destitute family in Mayberry Park.

These people are community heroes, each and every one of them. I want to send a heartfelt thank you to members of the CPF throughout Alberton for their service to our communities. Proving time and time again that they will go above and beyond just attending a monthly meeting.

That by jumping in to help the less fortunate, the destitute and the downtrodden with food parcels and assistance to do things like tidying up their yards, they have proven that community is and always will be the best solution to the problems society faces.

That by helping each other we can free ourselves of feelings of indifference and neglect that characterizes society. I am in awe of these individuals, these groups and this initiative because seeing it in action reminds me that there is always something more I can do, something more I can offer. I salute you, the hardworking, dedicated and unselfish members of the Community Policing Forums throughout Alberton.

Keep up the excellent work and just know that it doesn’t go unnoticed.
