The Bag Lady

A windy week but I’ve loved it. I was brought up on the North West coast of England and even on the warmest summer’s day it was breezy and during the winter month’s often winds reached 40 miles per hour.

I didn’t realise as a youngster why women wore so much hair spray, but looking back I now know it was an absolute necessity to keep hairstyles in place! I’ve seen a few ‘wild’ hair styles this past week while out and about.  Could be the wind or it could be the new fashion, you never quite know for sure!

Good grooming

We are all in the habit of using make-up well past its shelf date and it’s a good idea to go through your make-up bag every now and then and discard old products.

Should I keep it or throw it away?

Face powder – 18 months to two years; liquid foundation – 12 months; eye shadow – 18 months; cream to powder -12 months; mascara – three to four months; eye pencil – can last for as long as it’s still useable; lipstick – one year or until it goes hard and lip gloss – six months or until it smells stale.

Winter photo shoot

A few weeks ago my daughter and I had a photo shoot with a local photographer, Justine MacFarlane of Justine Mac Photography. The photos are lovely and that’s not just me saying so!  We both had so many compliments and the photos will be something I’ll always treasure.

The day of the shoot we very nearly cancelled as it was the coldest, windiest day of the year. The leaves and dust were literally swirling around us but Justine never hesitated, and along with her husband Keith they made the best of it. It was great fun and a fabulous bonding time with my daughter. I’d recommend her to anyone if they are thinking of having a photo shoot done. Contact her on her website, www.justinemac.co.za

Blades and Triggers

A reader recently went to Blades and Triggers at The Glen Shopping Centre and was concerned about the guns which were on the walls and she thought, easily accessible.

I contacted their head office for a response. “The concerns of this lady are not unreasonable, we share her perception. That is why our store’s construction is built to obstruct any non-staff member to gain access to any of our items without the attendance of any staff member in our store. This is the core functions of our store, for staff members to mediate between clients and the items they handle in our store, and to advise and encourage any person in our store to be conscious and exercise gun safety, regardless of them being non-firearms. We have physical barriers to prevent access to items in the store. Theft is a concern for any store, and we have had no incident of theft since our inception one year ago, nor any incident to establish suspicion that such an act occurred in our store, we have physical evidence to support our claims and we are constantly vigilant.”

That’s it for this week. Shop till you drop!
