Inside report: Radical change
Radical change are the new buzzwords being thrown around at the upper echelons of power. The need to bring about radical change in how Government achieves its service delivery goals is directly proportional to the ruling parties continued success at the polls.
ALBERTON – My answer to this is simple, radical change has happened. The condition of the roads has radically changed, from bad to worse to downright deadly. The sewer network has radically changed from one or two pesky leaks to rivers of effluent. Unemployment has radically changed from one man standing on the pavement looking for work to having lines of people on either side of street sitting all day hoping to find work. Crime has radically changed from petty theft and break- ins to home invasions, hijacking, rape and murder.
Radical change has happened, what we need as a country is radical stability. In my opinion the radical change has to be in the leadership. There we could use radical change, out with the old corrupt fat cats and in with good clean governance, now there’s a radical change I would opt for.
In truth though, I understand the concept of radical change, perhaps better than most. My life has had a number of radical changes over the years and I realise that my thinking has too. I cannot just see the world as I place that I live but rather as I place that I create. I cannot just be a community member but rather a community leader. My responsibility isn’t just paying my rates and taxes but becoming involved in solutions to problems we all face.
The biggest change I am making right now is accepting that I have the power and the privilege to become an example to the next generation of what a man is supposed to be. What a good citizen is supposed to be and to leave a legacy of learning that will light the way forward for years to come. But that’s my radical change, what’s yours? As Ghandi once said “be the change you wish to see in the world.”
