Diary of the Media Dude: First date with the IDOL MINI

The first time I heard Alcatel was making smartphones one of my eyebrows must have popped – trying to marry the previous handsets the company used to make with the latest trends, I had my reservations…

Pulling out one of their latest handsets I thought I was being duped into believing that they were showing me an iPhone; with a reluctant smile I reached out and switched on for the first time…

It wasn’t an iPhone, it was the ALCATEL ONETOUCH’s IDOL MINI, the latest slim and petite handset which, in its lightness, carries tons of the best Android technology on offer.

Still awed by its appearance, I notice how all the necessary apps are already pre-loaded, all I needed to do was log in to my Twitter, Facebook and set up my Whatsapp. Even more impressive is that the handset comes pre-loaded with Deezer, the number one site for listening to music on demand. The handset also comes with Shazaam pre-loaded.

For music fans, features such as Deezer and Shazaam are sure to appeal to you most, while analytical thinkers will enjoy the amazing games on offer. Become the mayor of your own city with Little Big City or run your own farm with Wonder Zoo.

However, there is no need to be stuck with the same pre-loaded apps. Google Play allows you to do just that… play with your device for hours, as long as your WiFi or data permits. These apps include anything from news to more social media and photo applications.

My first date with the ALCATEL ONETOUCH IDOL MINI was enthralling to say the least, the only letdown was the phone’s memory – for someone who loves capturing moments taking selfies and enjoying music, I would expect the phone memory to be sufficient without me needing to buy a memory card.

Am I in love? Not quite, the handset is great, but memory is a big thing for me, so I’m not sold yet.
