The Bag Lady

Happy Mother's Day to all the moms. I hope you all have a wonderful day with your children and enjoy special, magical moments with those you love.

Did you all do your duty and vote? I went around a few of the voting stations and there were queues of people. Some said they had been waiting for over two hours. The atmosphere was great though and everyone I spoke to was determined to vote, however long they had to wait. By the time you read this we’ll know who will be our leading party.

Focus on Local

If you have been to Thorn Birds/ Miss Grace Country House Restaurant you may have paid a visit to the Miss Grace Farm Stall that recently opened in the garden. If not, take time out and see the quaint shop. It is olde worlde and you can purchase sweet delights of yesteryear. They sell dainty gifts for ladies and children, old penny-line sweets, homemade jams and preserves, “Boere-raad” fix-you-ups as well as fresh breads on weekends. The shop is open Wednesday to Sunday from 09:30 to 16:00.

I bought some pear drops, I haven’t tasted them for years and they were so delicious. Brought back many memories of when I was a youngster.

Boardmans slips up

I saw Boardmans had its white sale and off I dashed to see what I could buy at bargain prices. There really were some great savings but it was such a battle to carry all my purchases. I bought some towels as gifts so ended up with an armful, as well as two duvet inners, two pillowcases and a bath mat. If you could have seen me you would have had a good laugh! The store does provide small baskets on wheels but hardly with sufficient room to accommodate many shoppers’ purchases. I had to pay for my goods, leave them all behind the counter while I, the customer, had to go off in search of another store’s trolley! I find this infuriating and it’s happened to me before. Please, Boardmans make a plan. You’ll probably find your sales go up too.

Prices go up and up

Neville Peters said he ordered an item from a supplier in the Rand Airport Area for R157 Inclusive and requested it was delivered to his home in Glenanda,a mere +- 25km’s one way. “The transport charges amounted to R250 plus VAT, which brought it up to R285for a +- 50km’s trip. This equates to R5.70/km. Is it exorbitant or not? I have no idea as I am not an e-tag user. Personally, I think it is a-rip-off and that is why prices of food and consumable goods have escalated so drastically! Surely there must be a solution?

Bouquet of the Week

Douglas and Lynn Holmes and would like to give a huge bouquet to John Goodenough from The Taller Waller Company and to his staff as well.

“We have had outstanding service from him for years after he installed our electric fence. In the past few months he has come to our rescue three times at short notice to ensure our safety.

Something went wrong with the fence wires and set the alarm off. He sent someone out within an hour of our call to repair it. Lightning struck the electric fence energiser and to ensure our safety he loaned us a spare one free of charge until the old one was repaired/replaced. Last month someone rode into our gate and bent it so that it would not close. The same day he and Dion repaired the gate and motor just enough so that the gate could close and we were secure. Early the next morning the broken part was re-welded, the motor repaired, the electric fence wires sorted out and the new parts painted with undercoat. All this within a reasonable cost.”

That’s it for this week. Shop till you drop – Oh, but don’t buy too many things at Boardmans or else you’ll end up breaking your back!
