The Bag Lady

Hope you enjoyed your long weekend with Human Rights Day. Over the next few months we are going to be treated to many public holidays we’ll hardly be at work.

Can you believe it’s April? We are already one quarter through 2014 and I hardly feel the year has begun, although in other ways I’m ready for a long holiday again.

The mornings and evenings are definitely becoming cooler, with the sun setting earlier and rising later and it’s becoming harder to get up in the morning, I long for an extra half an hour in bed! On the up side driving around the South I’m taken aback by some of the trees shedding their orange and red leaves, which will soon leave them stark and bare. Autumn is a lovely season, enjoy it while it lasts.

Snuggle up with Mr Price Home

I checked out some of the new winter stock at Mr Price Home last week and found some good buys. Throw Polar Fleece, 125cm x 150cm from R79.99. Winter fitted sheets (double) from R149.99, winter flat sheets double/queen from R159.99.two standard winter pillowcases for R69.99.

Hot water bottle with fleece cover from R89.99. Luxury coral fleece 180cm x200cm R129.00.

Duvets and pillows

Duck feather and Down continental duvet with 100% cotton percale down proof casing, double R999.99. Duck Feather continental duvet with 100% cotton percale down proof casing, double R659.99. Pack of two hollow fibre pillows with percale casing R99.99.

Microfibre duvet, double, with 100% percale casing R599.99. Pack of two continental pillows, hollow fibre with poly cotton casing R119.99. Standard quilted pillow protector R49.99 and standard towelling waterproof pillow protector R89.99.

I doubt you’ll find cheaper and I have bought duvets and pillows from Mr Price Home and they were very good quality. Don’t forget if you like winter bedding, buy now before shops sell out. If the winter is as cold as is being predicted, you’ll be needing all the extra warmth you can get!

Focus on Local

This week I was asked to feature Cosmic Bakery and Coffee Shop at Shop 18, Trust Centre in Alberton, by Vanya of Alberton SPCA, as the shop is giving Alberton SPCA 50 cents for every cup of coffee sold.

SPCA Inspector Henry Adegbite, Darron and Argiro Prince with their son Alexander and Lovelex.

Vanya said, “The menu is varied and the service is good too. You can sit inside or outside and watch the world go by. They sell delicious cakes, which along with the bread, is baked on the premises and they also sell sandwiches/rolls as takeaways. Cakes can be made to order. It’s well worth a visit. My husband and I had a tea, coffee and the Cosmic breakfast and it came to R49. Where else for that price?  And the eggs were ‘eggzactly’ as we ordered!”  You can phone them 011 027 5656.

That’s it for this week. E-mail: juliem@caxton.co.za or phone 011 724 7000. Take care and shop till you drop!
