Another week further into the year with November here and only another six weeks to Christmas. It’s been interesting to see all the shopping centres and shops putting up their Christmas décor and some of the bigger stores look beautiful.

Christmas is a magical time for most of us but spare a thought for those who aren’t as fortunate and when you are buying groceries, add a couple of extra items to your trolley and donate the goods to a worthwhile cause. Every little extra helps those in need.

I spy a new shop

The Glen has a new shop, ifix Repair Specialist, situated on the top floor opposite Home etc. The store is shiny new and very bright, and offers Apple products, Samsung products (mainly cell phones) and stocks various accessories. Pop in and see if you can find a Christmas gift

Changing baby

Taking a baby out to the shops can be quite a daunting experience, especially now when the malls are becoming busier with festive shoppers. If you are caught on the hop and need to change and/or feed your baby, The Glen shopping Centre has a Baby Changing Pod, where you can breast feed and change your baby in privacy.  I popped into the pod to see what it was like and although it’s basic with just a changing mat, trash disposer and pull-down seat, it’s extremely clean and has air conditioning. A fretful, hungry baby will feel so much better once fed and changed and then you can carry on with your shopping!

Gift ideas

Looking for different gifts can be a real time waster so I’m going to try and make your shopping sprees quicker and give you some ideas.

Boardmans sells a range called UMBRA. Not the cheapest line but somewhat different, with a petal photo display at R299.95, Grapevine wine rack in black vinyl which holds six bottles at R299.95 and for the woman who thinks “diamonds are a girl’s best friend”, a mini black dress travel jewellery organiser with seven pockets at R129.94, perfect gift for a loved one who likes to travel.

Home etc

Something quite unusual and very cute, door stops to keep the door open when it’s breezy. Choose from an elephant, owl, cat or hippo, from R199.99.

More ideas next week.

Bouquet of the Week

To SAPS Brackendowns who assisted Joan da Silva at Meyersdal Spar car park. “I’d locked my car keys in the car and was feeling dizzy. Sgt Mudau and const Molopi drove me home to get my spare set of keys. Thanks for going the extra mile.”

Lemon of the Week

Jo Morgan was shopping at Alberton City and misplaced her parking ticket. “I was there for two hours and had to pay R20 to be let out. I realise it was my fault but really, R20 for two hours shopping. I won’t be going back there again and neither will my family!”

That’s it for this week. Phone me 011 714 7000 or e-mail: juliem@caxton.co.za

Shop till you drop.
