AfriForum branch upgrades Alberton’s streets

AfriForum’s Alberton branch made a real difference in the Brackenhurst area the past weekend by filling potholes and repainting road signs.

The team filled potholes in Mispel Street and repainted a stop sign on the road. A total of 18 potholes were filled with 460kg of tar, while 21lt of paint and 130m of masking tape were used to repaint the road signs.

AfriForum Youth also repainted a fire hydrant, which makes it more visible in emergencies.

While the team was preparing to repaint speed bumps, bad weather brought the paint job to an end. However, the branch does not stop here and intends to repaint at least one-speed bump every weekend.

“We are proud of every member who gives their time and energy to improve their community. When we stand up as a community and take on the challenges ourselves, we prove that we can be in control of our environment. These do-it-yourself actions send a strong message: We are not waiting for change, we are the change,” said Jurie Ferreira, AfriForum’s district coordinator for the East Rand.

“The AfriForum project team in Alberton went on a mission to make their community safer and more beautiful. By getting their hands dirty, this dedicated team proved to residents what is possible when we take responsibility ourselves.”

AfriForum’s Alberton branch invites residents to get involved in these actions and make the difference they want to see.

“Contact the branch on 076 329 8697 or visit www.wordlid.co.za to make a positive impact in your community and be part of the solution,” Ferreira said.
