Alberton Lions Club make massive cupcakes sale to benefit Cupcakes of Hope

Alberton Lions sold 830 cupcakes, raising an impressive R12 000 in support of Cupcakes of Hope.

The Alberton Lions Club joined forces with Lions Clubs nationwide to make a difference in the lives of children battling cancer.

Alberton Lions Club participated in National Cupcake Day, a fundraising initiative supporting childhood cancer awareness.

This year, 74 malls across South Africa took part, including Lemon Tree Shopping Centre, The Glen, Mall of the South, and Bracken City Centre, where Alberton Lions Club members sold cupcakes.

The club donated 830 cupcakes, raising an impressive R12 000.

Courtney Lewarne of Alberton Lions Club said: “This is a major achievement and we are grateful that our Alberton Lions Club members and the community as well as different organisations that donated could be a part of this life-changing initiative.

“Many people donated without taking cupcakes, showing the depth of support for this cause.”

The cupcakes, beautifully decorated with toppings from JC Bakery and Caketastic Creations were priced between R10 and R20.

The national effort raised R2.3m, a testament to the power of community-driven initiatives.

Alberton Lions Club donated the leftover cupcakes to Sassa pensioners in the south of Johannesburg, as well as to three crèches supported by the club.

According to Lewarne, the club’s first Cupcakes of Hope project was back in 2018. In February 2023 Lion Sandra Human accepted Cupcakes for Cancer as a project in a Lions International Leadership course.

Alberton Lions supported this outreach project for the first time after Covid-19.

“Alberton Lions Club will continue to support this worthy cause and are looking forward to future projects,” said Courtney.
