City of Ekurhuleni urges residents to use water sparingly this season

To avoid running out of water, residents of the City of Ekurhuleni are encouraged to use water sparingly.

The City of Ekurhuleni would like to remind its citizens how important it is to save water, particularly in the spring.

Water use will increase as temperatures rise, therefore it will be even more important for everyone to do their part to protect this valuable resource during that time.

The city is dedicated to advancing sustainability and water conservation. To prevent Day Zero, they urge every resident to assist them in this endeavour by implementing water-saving measures.

Here are some water-saving tips for locals:

• To reduce evaporation, water your plants and lawn in the early morning or late at night.

• Fix irrigation system leaks and adjust watering schedules according to seasonal requirements.

• Instead of hosing off steps, sidewalks and driveways, sweep them.

• Plant trees and plants that can withstand droughts and use less water.

• For optimal water conservation, use a garden hose fitted with a spring-loaded shutdown nozzle.

• Use buckets instead of hosepipes for washing vehicles.

• As you brush your teeth, turn off the faucets.
