Miss SA finalist donates sanitary towels to Greenfields Primary learners

Locals Inothando Mphithi and Lilitha Bovu recently joined hands to empower young minds.

Learners from Greenfields Primary School were thrilled to receive a visit from locals Inothando Mphithi and Lilitha Bovu on August 23.

The young duo collaborated to generously donate at least 180 sanitary towels and offer an educational talk to the many learners at the school.

As an International Miss South Africa finalist, Mphithi said she was honoured to have made a difference in the community.

“I collaborated with an old high school friend and she also helped collect pads at her residence in Tuks. I appreciate her support.

“I’m proud to have donated sanitary pads as I believe they represent more than just a necessity, but they represent dignity, equality and the freedom to learn without barriers,” she said.

Mphithi said she believes that every learner deserves access to these essential products, regardless of their financial situation.

She has been collecting sanitary pads since the beginning of February from friends and family.

“On the day, I did an informative talk about menstruation and we had a girl talk. We opened for questions and I asked the girls who knew what the 7Bs [‘books before boys because boys bring babies’] and gave a crown to a girl that answered as she was the only one that answered,” she explained.

During her talk, the second-year education student also emphasized the importance of education and learning.

“I spoke to the Grade Seven learners on the transition from primary to high school. I’d love to do another visit to raise awareness on pad poverty as I believe our community would be hands-on and donate to this initiative and my foundation, Liberal Hearts Foundation,” she said.
