Ekurhuleni invests in ECD centres

The City of Ekurhuleni committed to invest in Early Childhood Development as it plays a significant in children's lives and they have recently marked their first milestone with the initiative.

The City of Ekurhuleni marked a significant milestone in its commitment to invest in Early Childhood Development (ECD).

CoE recently sent its ECD and library officials to a training offered by the childhood development organisation, Care for Education.

Care for Education provides LEGO Playbox lessons to enhance play-based linguistic, physical activities, and cognitive development.

Their courses educate teachers on how to include play, social-emotional learning, communication, teamwork, creativity, and critical thinking in their teaching methods.

The training included a generous donation of LEGO resources, enhancing the candidates’ capacity to engage young learners.

According to the spokesperson of the city Zweli Dlamini, the programme prepares librarians to apply their newly acquired knowledge and abilities to support learners at primary schools and early childhood development (ECD) centres.

“By incorporating LEGO into their programmes, our libraries can create engaging and interactive learning experiences, making education more accessible and enjoyable,” Zweli said.

The partnership between the libraries of the City of Ekurhuleni and Care for Education marks a major development in the field of education.

Through the utilisation of play, librarians have the potential to significantly influence children’s educational journey across the city.
