Cubs scout out Jozi zoo

The youngsters enjoyed their time at the zoo.

The Cub Scouts visited the Johannesburg Zoo on August 3. Hundreds of Cub Scouts from around Joburg attended, and each Scout wore their district colours, so all the districts were represented.

Tristan Labuscagne, a Cub Scout from the 1st Randhart District, was impressed with the day’s turnout.

“It is amazing how many families came to enjoy the day,” Tristan said.

Every district set up their own games and activities around the bandstand. Each group of Cubs went from one stand to the next, having fun because of the many games and activities they could play. There were obstacle courses, pin the tail on the donkey, jumbo tic-tac-toe, and the Cubs saw a trained owl and taxidermied animals like lions and snakes.

One of the stands had an activity involving large wooden feet. The Cubs had to walk carefully without losing the bottle caps placed on every toe.

After lunch, the Cubs went on a scavenger hunt, looking for the animals on a list they had received. Many friendships flourished between the Scouts during this activity.

“The young Cub Scouts enjoyed the zoo while also learning about nature.” Tristan continued
Youngsters between the ages of seven and 11 who want to make new friends should consider joining the Cubs. They meet every Friday from 17:00 to 18:30.

Scouts aged between 12 and 18 meet every Friday from 18:30 to 20:30. The Cub Scouts are for girls and boys.
