Mukesh Dayah takes reigns as the new president of Alberton Lions Club

Having served Alberton Lions Club in various roles over the past five years, Mukesh Dayah is ready to take on as the club’s president for this year.

Mukesh Dayah was officially sworn in as the 55th president of the Alberton Lions Club during his induction on July 27.

Mukesh joined Alberton Lions Club on August 20, 2018, where past district governor (PDG) Ian King accepted the role of being his sponsor.

Mukesh’s journey with the Alberton Lions Club began in 2018 when his wife Melinda introduced him to the club.
He was immediately drawn to the sense of family and friendship among the members, and he knew he had found his calling.

According to Mukesh, before being inducted as a member, he participated in a few service projects and fundraisers in the club.

“I must admit how I was welcomed by the members of the club, felt like family. The decision to become a member, coupled with my value of we are here to serve, felt like the universe was in alignment and this was my calling,” said Mukesh.

After being with the club for two years, Mukesh was privileged enough to be asked to join the board of directors as treasurer. He fulfilled this role until June 2023, after which he took on the role of the first vice president until the end of June.

Mukesh’s endless determination to the club had members of the Alberton Lions Club vote him in as the incoming president of the club for 2024 on July 1.

He gladly accepted the role and will serve as the president until June 30, 2025.

Mukesh said, “I am truly grateful and appreciate their trust in me to lead the biggest Lions Club in the district, and it was made even more special to be inducted by my sponsor, Ian King.”

He added that his experience with Alberton Lions Club is one of the reasons that pushes him to have the drive to serve his community with pride.

“The passion, empathy, and respect that the members demonstrate in our projects and to each other, led me to the motto of strength in oneness in my year of being the president.”

Mukesh’s vision and goal for the club is to continue to do the great work already done in supporting the community, and partner with businesses in and around Alberton to reach out to even more people in the community who can benefit from the club’s service.

“We would also like to encourage the community to look out for service projects that we will be conducting and we urge them to participate in our fundraising initiatives.

“Strength in oneness is not just limited to Alberton Lions Club, it incorporates our community and all those we serve,” added Mukesh.

Love for serving people

“My parents, my brothers, and I were brought up with strong family values and high work ethic. My mother always told us to help wherever we can. We were urged to uplift people.

“The effect of these words became even more prevalent the older I got. Our sole purpose in life is to serve one another. So, when all of these values and teachings are combined, living a life of service was a natural evolution to who I was meant to be and what I was destined to do.”

Lessons he learned from his former presidents

He draws inspiration from his predecessors, including King, who taught him that vulnerability is a strength, and past president Keith Holliman, who demonstrated a willingness to learn and grow.

As Mukesh embarks on this new chapter, he remains committed to serving the members of the Alberton Lions Club and the community at large.

His story is a testament to the power of leadership, compassion, and dedication, inspiring others to follow in his footsteps.
