WATCH: Alberton High bids farewell to seasoned staff member

After working at the school since February 1978, seasoned ground staff member, Andries Kgosana, will leave a lasting impact at the school as he looks forward to his retirement.

Andries Kgosana will always be remembered by many as one who took pride in his work.

On July 15, Alberton High School celebrated Andries’ 65th birthday. He is a valued member of staff who has been with The Blues for over 46 years.

He has worked well with school staff and has mentored many who have worked with him.

As he leaves the school, he said retiring is a difficult experience to withstand, especially when you are passionate about what you do.

“Alberton High School was my home and leaving home is always difficult and saddening, but I’m glad. It’s a scary experience but it was time. I’m sad because I’ll be leaving behind my friends and colleagues. I’ve also learnt a lot through the school,” Andries said.

Highlights he will always carry with him include the time spent with colleagues in Durban and, one of his fondest memories when he first flew to Cape Town.

“When we got to Cape Town we went to Robben Island and went to a wine place thanks to former principal, Mr Minnie. I would also like to thank Mr Olivier for his kindness and respect. I worked well with him as well as the rest of the staff and learners,” he said.

Although he got plenty of offers to work for other schools, he remained loyal to Alberton High.

His colleagues admired his work ethic and ability to go above and beyond.

Jannie Olivier, the school principal, said: “Andries is looking forward to pension and we will also host a function for him. We wish him all the best to come as he retires.”

His last day will be on July 31 and he looks forward to spending time with his loved ones.
