Be vigilant of investment fraudsters, warns Brackendowns SAPS

Brackendowns SAPS warn unsuspecting community members to be vigilant after noticing an alarming increase in fraud scams.

The police are warning the public to refrain from doing online investments.

This is after Brackendowns SAPS has noted an increase in fraud scams in their policing precinct. Those purchasing items through online platforms are urged to be cautious.

According to Sergeant Lindile Moloi, social crime coordinator, these scammers will make people pay for a product twice and tell them to pay for their storage.

She cautioned locals not to fall victim to scams as the scammers constantly find new ways to defraud people of their hard-earned money.

Moloi said they noted an increase in fraud scams, especially on online purchases.

She advised the public to be vigilant when answering phone calls from people claiming to be employees of banking institutions.

“They will be asked to provide sensitive information. Instead of falling for that trap, locals should visit their banks to confirm if they need any information.

“They should also refrain from online purchases such as Facebook market,” Moloi said.
