Nevio Dalla Venezia’s story is a testament to the power of resilience and determination.
Venezia (70), owner of Safe Working Practise, saw himself retrenched at the age of 60 years – just six years before his retirement.
His retrenchment left him feeling stranded and worried about his future. Instead of giving up, he chose to see the silver lining and find a new purpose.
“I was very worried when I was retrenched. I didn’t know what I was going to do next, but I knew I had to find something that would make me want to wake up every day,” said Venezia.
With a wealth of experience in human resources, Venezia teamed up with his friend Claudio Freschi to start a franchise, Safe Working Practice, which focuses on occupational health and safety.
“I used my skills to start a business, which was a risky but calculated move. I am glad I took the leap of faith as it has been a huge success.”
He got into the human resources department after graduating from university.
From humble beginnings in his home with no office, having his wife and two close friends working as accountants in the business, he has seen his company grow exponentially.
The company now employs seven people who have an in-depth knowledge of health and safety issues affecting business.
Venezia’s decision to focus on occupational health and safety comes from the idea that many people in construction don’t understand the requirements of the law.
“We assist companies in being compliant with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the associated regulations that go with it.“
Venezia’s journey serves as a beacon of hope for those facing similar challenges. His advice to those who may find themselves in his shoes is to never give up.
“Don’t lose confidence. Use your skills to your benefit, and never see yourself as useless.”
Venezia’s business is thriving, and he is proud of what he achieved. His story is a reminder that it is never too late to start anew and turn adversity into opportunity.
