AfriForum Alberton extinguishes six fires in one night

AfriForum continues to put communities’ safety at the forefront after they recently dealt with six fires in one night.

The AfriForum Alberton branch recently mobilised its fire squad in response to a community call for a veld fire dangerously close to a resident’s house at the Besembos Street entry point in Mayberry Park.

Upon arrival, the advance team noticed the fire gradually dwindling, but other fires at Christo’s Pizza and an Engen petrol station needed urgent attention.

According to Jurie Ferreira, AfriForum’s East Rand co-ordinator, the team rapidly extinguished the fire and used the firefighter trailer to treat the surrounding bushes.

After the area was deemed safe, the team dealt with the other flames on R59. Ten committed AfriForum Alberton members extinguished six fires during the night using their firefighting van and rubber matting.

“We are deeply grateful to the community for the effective communication that enabled our fire team to respond quickly and serve our community. It is a testament to the power of community co-operation and the dedication of our fire crews to ensure safety and security.

“As Helen Keller once said, ‘Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much’. The joint efforts of our community members and the AfriForum fire crews make a significant difference in protecting lives and property,” said Ferreira.

AfriForum urges residents to remain watchful and continue to support local security initiatives. The Alberton branch calls on residents to get involved in their community and join the branch.

“We hope projects like this will inspire the community to get involved and make a difference in their community,” concluded Ferreira.

AfriForum is a non-profit civil rights organisation founded on March 26, 2006, to encourage Afrikaners to engage in public discourse and actions outside of party politics.
