Young people descend on Datsun Park to celebrate Youth Day

Small businesses in the community were urged to set up stalls to market their goods and services.

Eden Park hosted the second annual Eden Park Collaborative Youth Day to celebrate Youth Day, and scores of young people gathered at the local park.

The activities included soccer, netball, poetry, spiritual dancing, prayer, business and skills development discussions and other empowering community initiatives.

Some of the activities included face painting for the younger children.

Small businesses around Datsun Park were encouraged to set up stalls to market their goods and services. It was a day to celebrate the youth. However, young and old came out to support the event.

Clr Dino Peterson, at the forefront of the event’s organisation, said, “The idea is to expose our youth to different activities in the community, to spark interest, and encourage them to get involved.”

Peterson also said some youths in the community would travel to England in October to compete with youths overseas in eight-ball pool.

Netball players were awarded certificates of participation as a token of acknowledgement for their involvement in community-led activities.

“It’s our second year doing this event, and it was a huge success,” added Peterson.
