Large parts of Alberton have been without power since Thursday afternoon due to a faulty cable at the Mayberry Park substation.
This has caused a blackout over a vast area serviced by two substations.
As such, due to limited capacity and to grant all customers a fair opportunity, the City of Ekurhuleni has implemented a load rotation that will occur every six hours for the different areas.
According to Councillor Ivan Naidoo, this is happening due to only one transformer being operational. Transformer 5 oil purification is currently taking place as moisture was found in the oil.

“This process takes about seven to eight hours, the oil will then be tested, and when it is clear, transformer 5 will be up and running, and power will be restored for all residents by 23:00,” said Naidoo.
