Operation Vala to close down all illegal independent schools

The Gauteng Department of Education is on a quest to close down all illegal independent schools.

Parents and community members are advised to demand education management information systems (EMIS) letters to ascertain that these are legitimate schools when seeking admission to private schools.

According to the Gauteng Department of Education’s spokesperson, Steve Mabona, if a school is in a house and does not have an EMIS certificate that corresponds with an address where it is, then the school is illegal.

“The department is working tirelessly to tighten the administration of the admissions process to accommodate all learners in Gauteng.

“Accordingly, we have started a campaign called Operation Vala, whose aim is to identify and close all illegal independent schools,” he explained.

Mabona assured the Alberton Record the department always ensures that affected learners are placed respectively every time illegally operating schools are closed.
