Brackendowns burst water pipe finally repaired

The City of Ekurhuleni has finally resolved a burst water pipe after thousands of litres of water went to waste in Brackendowns.

After reporting a burst water pipe at least 13 times with not much assistance, the City of Ekurhuleni stated that the delay was as a result of incorrect reporting.

For the last three weeks, Brackendowns’ Sandy Sulter said they have been trying desperately to report a water leak in Kate Street, Brackendowns, but sadly to no avail.

She said thousands of litres of precious water was being wasted with no regard for their reports.

“I have reported this incident 13 times, and have obtained reference numbers, but as you can see from the attached photos, the council merely closes the request. It is a frustrating endeavour and sad to see the litres of precious water wasted, as the stormwater drains are so blocked with debris that the water is collecting on the street causing more problems to residents’ properties,” she explained.

According to Ekurhuleni spokesperson Zweli Dlamini, the leak was only resolved on January 29.

“Calls were logged under Operations for 15 Kate, Brackendowns. The metering division would not have received this complaint. However, no leak was observed at this address. The correct address for the leak was 4 Kate, Brackendowns. A specialised fitting was required but due to the builder’s break, the supplier was closed,” he said.
