Alberton High sharpens young minds through digital technology

Alberton High School, best described as a school of excellence, has started the year on a good note, by bringing digital technology to their many learners at the school.

What used to solely be a school library has been upgraded to become Alberton High School’s first research centre – the Geek Centre.

On January 16, the school proudly and officially opened doors to the research centre, which was marked by the cutting of the ribbon by the school principal, Jannie Olivier. He also presented management with a certificate of unveiling.

More than 30 laptops have been set up to be used for digital technology, computer-aided technology (CAT), information technology (IT) as well as research.

“I think we are moving into the fourth industrial revolution and it’s important that our children can be able to do the normal book collection and also do research on the internet,” Olivier said.

Deputy principal Lizelle de Bruin said the Geek Centre will be used for digital technology during class times, in the afternoons or during breaks for research.

Jannie Olivier, the school principal, officially opens the research centre.
