Alberton community loses Good Samaritan

The Alberton community paid its last respects to the late Gairoonisha ‘Nisha’ Ismail on December 21 at the Alberton Civic Centre.

The Ismail family of New Redruth family is sad to announce the passing of their beloved mother and grandmother, Gairoonisha Ismail, who succumbed to natural causes on the Day of Reconciliation, December 16.

This will be a holiday “never to be forgotten” by the family.

Prominently known as Nisha by Albertonians from various walks of life, Gairoonisha, who died aged 59, will be remembered as a Good Samaritan actively involved in the Alberton community.

She worked in Alberton City for at least 38 years, having worked in Wimpy, Panarottis, Maxi’s, and later returning to Wimpy.

She leaves behind five brothers, two sons, two daughters-in-law and three grandchildren. After her sudden passing, she was laid to rest on the same day.

According to her eldest son, Riyaadhudeen Ismail, Gairoonisha was the bubbliest and friendliest person who dedicated most of her life to her work and caring for her family.

“She could relate to everyone, and it did not matter who that person was. She wasn’t one to treat people according to hierarchy; what she did for the one, she would do for the next. She appreciated everyone who came across her, from the homeless to the most important people from abroad,” he said.

Riyaadhudeen said his mother would always go the extra mile and that people would love her affectionate and caring nature from the onset.

“We will love and miss her, and her beautiful memory will live forever. She fulfilled the role of a mother to her children and everyone who met her. Even though her life was a rollercoaster, you would never see her down. Several people would resonate with her,” Riyaadhudeen said.

She left a lasting impact on public figures such as the late Zahara, Rebecca Malope, Sindi Dlathu, Alfred Ntombela and pastor Mboro, who all knew her from Maxi’s restaurant.

Not only was Gairoonisha multilingual and assertive, but the kind-hearted late senior would dedicate her time to caring for kids. Her source of joy was caring for the intellectually challenged children at The Hamlet Foundation.

Her memorial service was on December 21 at the Alberton Civic Centre.
