Collabo tackles scourge of power outages in Alrode

TSG Private Security has joined hands with several entities to spearhead the safeguarding of their electrical infrastructure which has plagued big manufacturing companies in Alrode with power outages due to vandalism.

The most recent power outage experienced by heavy industries supplied by the Jurie Street substation and control room was due to vandalism, which saw close to 40 businesses without power.

Crime has escalated over the recent years in Alrode, from petty crime to theft and vandalism of electrical infrastructure, according to TSG Private Security.

The security company has joined hands with several entities to restore Alrode by safeguarding the Jurie Street substation which has been heavily plagued by vandalism leading to power interruptions.

The private security company has assured to conduct regular security patrols and surveillance at the control room which supplies the many companies.

Tryan Magill of TSG Private Security said: “We look after a lot of companies within these two streets [Jurie and Liebenberg Street] and provide security. And every time the power is down, it will only be these two affected streets. We’d come through here and find that the substation has been vandalised.”

He said they then took it upon themselves to go company-to-company and get contributions as a means to better secure the area. Jointly, they are on a quest to restore Alrode to the clean and safe industrial hub it used to be.

The list of companies that contributed towards making this project possible includes Advanced Seat and Cab Solutions, Paperlogy, Duraset Strata Controls and Velocity Ventures. They were joined by Steel Tube, Mandini Wealth, Kubuli Recyclers, Rep Motors, M&H Pumps Services, Validtrade, Royal Africa Stone, Cage Africa and WSB Industrial Supplies and Plant Hire.

They have partnered to reinforce and repair the existing fence, put up solar lights, and repair doors, and locks fitted to all doors and gates. A wireless alarm system will also be installed and monitored by TSG Private Security and the area will be maintained.

“We’re a very proactive company and we want to prevent any loss of life as much as possible. Once this is secured, we’ll move on to the next street,” he explained.

He reiterated that crime is rife and that they have noted a slight increase in theft in truck tyres. Magill also thanked Ward 94 Clr Samantha Nair for assisting in facilitating the process.
