WATCH: Fierce blaze leaves trail of destruction in Florentia

Troy Davis was devastated after a fire broke out in his garage, scorching several vehicles and completely destroying his garage on November 15.

Ekurhuleni emergency services responded to a house fire in Florentia on November 15, where a garage was ablaze.

Senior Troy Davis, who had been working on cars from his garage for the past few years, lost his livelihood after his garage went up in flames, which saw four vehicles catch alight, with one Mitsubishi Colt bakkie only burning in front.

The blaze completely scorched an Opel Kadett, a Corsa bakkie, a Hyundai Elantra J2, and his tools stored in his garage.

Though there were no casualties, the 62-year-old skilled worker sustained a minor injury to his leg as he tried to save some of his tools.

Speaking to the Alberton Record, he said: “We were working, and as we took a fuel tank from one of the cars, it caught fire and started burning. I’ve lost my business.”

Aslam Limalia, who owns a business on the same street, said while they were busy trying to block the road from being used by motorists, they heard about three to four load blasts.

Pieter Uys Avenue in Florentia was blocked off.

The security companies involved included CPS, BlackHawk Tactical, SOG, Fidelity ADT, and SWS. ER24 paramedics, Netcare 911 and other entities were also on the scene.
