#LOTS initiative makes a difference

On the evening of September 21, a man who had been on his way to commit a house robbery paused to listen to the message of hope and redemption.

The #LOTS and The Upper Room Rehabilitation Centre SA initiative is a testament that, with faith, anything is possible.

In a world often filled with indifference, some choose to make a difference. Among them is the #LOTS Initiative, a non-profit working with The Upper Room Rehabilitation Center SA with a vision and mission to offer a beacon of hope to the homeless in the community.

“Every Thursday night, with the help of these entities, the streets of Alberton come alive with the transformative power of faith, compassion, and miracles. The heart of these non-profits beats to the rhythm of empathy, extending its arms to the marginalised, the lost, the homeless, and the addicted,” said Pastor Ian Naidoo of The Upper Room Rehabilitation Center SA.

Pastor Ian Naidoo spreads a message of hope.

Their mission is simple yet profound – to preach the gospel and the message of repentance, showcasing Jesus Christ’s unwavering love for those who often feel forgotten, followed by a hot meal just as Jesus fed the multitude.

Naidoo said what sets #LOTS and The Upper Room apart is not their powerful message but the tangible miracles witnessed on the streets of Alberton.

“It is as if the divine presence of God descends upon this weekly gathering, working wonders that defy explanation. Stories of individuals once bound by infirmity and despair finding healing and hope have become commonplace. One of the most extraordinary testimonies involves individuals with spine issues and the lame miraculously regaining their mobility,” he said.

“In a world where medical science often holds the key to such recoveries, these inexplicable healings serve as a testament to the awe-inspiring power of faith in Jesus Christ,” he said.

Great conviction

“The most moving moment in recent history was on September 21. As the team began their sermon, an unexpected attendee joined the congregation. This man, who had been on his way to commit a house robbery, paused to listen to the message of hope and redemption,” he explained.

Gavin Hendry, who was part of #LOTS, has since moved to the United Kingdom.

As the words of grace and salvation filled the air, Naidoo said something extraordinary happened. The convicted heart of this would-be criminal underwent a profound transformation.

“In that moment, faith found its way into his life, and he made the courageous choice to abandon his criminal intent. This sudden change of heart is a testament to the impact of #LOTS and The Upper Room on our community,” he explained.

He said they are not just about preaching. They embrace the human spirit with open arms and show the power of faith through real and tangible transformations.

Pouring love and hope

“As the Thursday nights in Alberton continue to light up with love, faith, and miracles, it reminded us that even in our darkest moments, there is always hope.

“Our mission is to reach the lost, the homeless, and the addicted is not only commendable but an inspiration for us all,” he said.

For those struggling with addiction and need counselling, the #LOTS Hope Centre next to Alberton Home Affairs and Alberton Driving School is operational Monday to Friday from 08:00 to 13:00.

The services of SANCA will also be available on Mondays and Dr June Jefferey, a specialist counsellor, will be available Tuesday to Friday.
