EMPD keeps roads safe as festive season approaches

The EMPD’s pre-festive season public transport operation ensures safety for commuters in Alberton.

Alberton precinct’s EMPD conducted a public transport operation on Elandsfontein and Heidelburg roads in the Alberton CBD on September 27.

The operation aimed to ensure that vehicles in the public transport sector comply with the National Road Traffic Act (Act 93 of 1996) and are deemed safe for commuters to use.

“During the exercise, 50 motor vehicles were stopped and searched. At least 79 written notices for various transgressions were issued to motorists who were not complying and adhering to the stipulated rules of the road and the law,” EMPD’s Lieutenant Colonel Kelebogile Thepa said.

She said this is an ongoing action within the City of Ekurhuleni and the EMPD officers. She added they will make sure the city’s roads are safe and free from accidents or crashes, especially with the festive season approaching.
