Melville Koppies wins national heritage award

Wendy Carstens receives the award for Melville Koppies.

On September 14 at a lavish event in Cape Town’s Artscape Theatre, Melville Koppies Nature Reserve and Heritage Site was crowned the ‘preferred destination’ by the National Heritage Council (NHC) when it came to heritage sites across the country.

According to Wendy Carstens, Melville Koppies Management Committee chairperson, “We entered the Preferred Destination category because it encompassed the many, many natural attributes that MK has, plus the educative, research, and sustainable recreation facilities it offers. And of course the intense, committed volunteer involvement since its establishment in 1959.”

Book a guided tour and come and see what heritage wonders there are to see, marvel at their varied colours and learn their names.

Safe parking (opposite the Melville Koppies entrance) at Marks Park Sports Club in Judith Road, Emmarentia. R100pp, R50 for U18.
