City identifies major leak affecting water supply in Alberton and its surroundings

The City of Ekurhuleni has responded on unplanned water supply interruptions.

Residents have been advised of an emergency water supply interruption affecting water supply in parts of Alberton and its surroundings this Monday.

According to the City of Ekurhuleni, the water shutdown is due to a major leak on a 600 mm Steel Road crossing Klipriver Drive feeding towards Eden Park.

The City states that there is no water in Leopards Rest, Thinasonke and Alrode Ext 17. Edenpark, Greenfields, Sky City and Thokoza Ext 2&5, low water pressure.

“We have opened the pipe and did an Internal CCTV inspection to determine the position and extent of the damage inside the pipe. We are now busy with the excavation to do the repairs. No restoration time can be given at this stage.” said the City in a statement.

As a result, the City has introduced the following emergency: three water tankers provide water in Leopards Rest, Tinazonkwe ext 3 and Tinazonkwe ext 4. Additional tankers will be sourced and position communicated when received.
